YWCA Kaua’i will host its annual Candlelight Vigil on Wednesday, October 19th, from 5:30 – 7 pm, in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Week Without Violence. The Vigil will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, with refreshments and childcare provided. We will be honoring domestic violence survivors and fatality victims across the state.

Speakers include Kayli Obrero, sister of Tia Obrero, who was a vibrant member of the Kaua‘i community – a beloved mother, sister, daughter – and a fatality victim of domestic violence in 2019.  Kayli has bravely channeled her grief and loss into advocacy and action on behalf of domestic violence victims. Kayli serves on the Board of Directors for the non-profit organization Women Speaking Out, which educates the youth of Hawai’i about the signs and dangers of dating violence.

Domestic violence survivor Deslynn Jaquias will also share her story and journey toward healing. Deslynn’s life mission is to empower and inspire others to practice self-care through music, humor, and art. Deslynn is a mental health, suicide prevention, and domestic violence advocate, sharing her knowledge and compassion through her Healing with Aloha podcast.
